Modus

Toscana IGT

Modus

Color:  Ruby red.

Aroma:  Intense and intriguing on the nose, initial aromas of mature red and black fruits, such as cherries, plums, and small black berries, typical of Sangiovese, are complemented by hints of spices, sweet tobacco, and refined balsamic notes.

Tasting profile:  Full bodied with a modern Super Tuscan style, this wine is rich with silky tannins and flavors of mature blackberry fruit and cocoa. Vibrant fresh fruit flavors from the Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot weave together with finesse, each adding its own distinctive character.

Modus is wonderful on its own, or serve it with bold dishes such as duck with olives and pancetta, beef-stuffed manicotti with Bolognese sauce, and aged cheeses including taleggio, pecorino and gouda.

The Super Tuscan Modus, the Latin word for 'method', is Ruffino's contemporary way of expressing Tuscany with a blend of three noble grape varieties. First introduced in 1997, Modus routinely garners exceptional acclaim from the top wine critics worldwide. Sangiovese is the core of Modus, providing refined texture along with cherry and red berry aromas. The Merlot offers smoothness enriched by blackberry fruit and delicate notes of mint, while the Cabernet Sauvignon lends structure, and also unites all three grape types with its elegance. Modus' label features a compass that artfully represents the meticulous balance of all the elements that come together to give this wine its distinctive character: vines, sun, fruit, soil, dedication and the passage of time.

We source the grapes for Modus from Ruffino's Poggio Casciano estate and other selected vineyards. The three grape varieties that comprise its blend - Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon - are aged separately in small French and American oak casks for approximately 12 months before they are blended and bottled.

Grape Varieties

34% Sangiovese, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot.

VINEYARDS

Sourced from the Poggio Casciano and Santedame estates.

AGING

After completing malolactic fermentation, the three varietals were blended and aged for 12 months in 60-gallon (225 liter) oak barrels of first, second, and third use. The wine then spent an additional six months in stainless steel tanks and bottle before release.
