
Il Ducale is the perfect accompaniment to herb-roasted chicken, sun-dried tomato risotto, and beef carpaccio. It also pairs beautifully with tomato bruschetta, Parmigiano Reggiano, or Pecorino Romano cheeses for Italian-inspired entertaining.
Ruffino introduced Il Ducale—an innovative blend of Sangiovese, Syrah and Merlot—in 2005 as an expression of Tuscany that marries the refinement of traditional Tuscan winemaking with a contemporary, fruit-driven style. The Sangiovese contributes elegance, acidity and finesse. The Merlot brings colour, structure and roundness, while the Syrah offers spicy, black fruit notes and a silky texture. This is a wine with classic Tuscan roots and a modern soul.
The grapes for our Il Ducale wine come from the most prestigious winegrowing regions of Tuscany, including Ruffino's estate vineyards. After we ferment the wine in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for eight days, it receives extended grape skin contact for another eight to 10 days for deep colour and concentrated flavours. We age this wine for 12 months in oak casks of first, second and third use.
