This wine pairs beautifully with a wide variety of fresh, seasonal and simply prepared Italian foods. It's especially delicious with Italian sausage, lasagna, and Italian-inspired fare such as meatball sliders and medium-strength cheeses.
Ruffino was among the first wineries to rediscover the Chianti Superiore appellation, which forms the perfect bridge between simpler Chianti DOCGs and more complex, deeper Chianti Classicos. Wines under the current Chianti Superiore DOCG code are subject to stricter production standards than Chianti DOCG wines.
We select grapes for this wine primarily from the highly sought-after sub-regions of Valdarno and Monteriggioni in Chianti, and then craft this wine according to Chianti Superiore codes of production. Fermentation is aided by racking and punch-downs in stainless steel vats maintained at cool temperatures. After fermentation, extended skin contact continues for seven days to bring about additional rich colour and flavours. After malolactic fermentation to add smooth, velvety characteristics, we age this wine for at least seven months in concrete and stainless steel vats, with an additional two months of bottle aging.
